What I Say: Firstly, I would like to say that I feel that this product is a direct response to the "natural hair movement" with the mention of hair typing, free-from ingredients and the logos used on the product itself - I think that Organic Root Stimulator or Namasté were really trying to contribute the natural hair market and compete against specialist brands such as Taliah Waajid, Curls and Kinky Curly.

Lets move onto the product itself... For around £8 you get 16 ounces/454g of product which actually quite a lot of product - so it will last you a good long while. I bought mine in April and have been using it on an almost weekly basis and I have still got a quarter left. So even though it might initially sound costly it still work out to be rather inexpensive.

The créme is a yellow thickish consistency with a quite strong sweet smell - sort of "faux mango". Because of the consistency of the créme it does allow my hair to curl pretty well, not completely without frizz but definition nevertheless. I do have to add a little gel if I do want a more frizz-free finish however it's not a completely necessary step. It terms of shine, I haven't really noticed any significant difference. And I really can't see how a product can offer curl definition without shrinkage - it just isn't possible!

I trialled the product initially with just a oil as a sealant on top but I didn't feel as though my hair was moisturised enough to continue using it alone without a dedicated moisturising product or leave-in conditioner. So I would definitely say this product shouldn't be used as a dual purpose styling and hair care product. It is best used as a styling product only. I have used it to style my flat twists and it works well doing so without flaking or build up.

Looking at the ingredient lists even though there isn't any SD alcohols, parabens or mineral oil,  there are quite a few other unnatural ingredients you might want to pay attention to like: propylene glycol or dimethicone etc.

Quick Review:

  • Gives good curl definition
  • Combs out easily
  • Reasonably priced
  • No flaking or build up
  • Good for styling
  • Not really “Organic” or great ingredient
  • Strong smell
  • No real shine added
  • Not a great moisturiser
  • Still a bit frizzy

Bottom line: An OK product.
