PRODUCT REVIEW: Dark & Lovely Au Naturale Curl Defining Creme Glaze

I'm not going to lie to you, I have not tried a Dark & Lovely product in ages but when I found out that Dark & Lovely had made a product range for the "natural hair" market, I was both interested and cynical. In all honesty, I've never been a fan of Dark & Lovely even when I had relaxed hair, I found them drying and just generally not the best. However, I was keen to find out if the "Au Naturale" range could change my opinion on the brand.

The Dark & Lovely Au Natural Curl Defining Creme Glaze retails at £6.99 for 14oz, so relatively affordable. The Curl Defining Creme Glaze is for "loose spiral & curls" and claims to provide "lightweight moisture, definition and a medium flexible hold. Features a New Anti-Shrinkage Recipe with Mango Oil and Bamboo Milk for naturally elongated, healthy-looking, soft and defined frizz-free curls that last". I was initially unsure about trying this particular products as I wouldn't define my hair as loose spiral curls but the model pictured on the product looked like she had hair similar to mine.

The Curl Defining Creme Glaze is a thick cream consistency and it smells very highly fragranced which you will either love or hate. I tried this product for my wash'n'go's but also for a twist out too. I found this good for a twist-out I got great definition and my hair felt however it kind of flaked on me which wasn't great at all.

I also tried this product after I conditioner washed my hair for a wash'n'go and although I felt it applied like it was going to work for me - it clumped my curls and I was getting good definition however I just felt my hair didn't look to good when it dried. My hair dried fluffy and frizzy at the roots and it just felt sticky/greasy as well. I could not wait to wash this product out because I hated how this felt in my hair. I don't feel my hair was moisturised either and the product weighed down my hair. In terms of ingredients as well although the product boasts natural ingredients such as mango oil and bamboo milk - these ingredients are listed quite near to the end so I don't expect there is actually much in there.

In conclusion, I could not recommend this product. It may be the case the product wasn't suited for my hair texture but I don't feel this product deliver on most of the benefits listed on tub at all. I would give this product 2 out 5.
